WHO: FaceFace
Socially conscious, midwest rap music. Officially a duo made up of vocalist Paul Nyakatura and producer RLT, they have the ability to simultaneously entertain and incite jaw-dropping via the tight mix of samples, live drum fills and witty, yet thoughtful and smart lyrics. Debut album was released in February, but the group is still making its rounds throughout the city. Make sure to make plans to see them next time they perform.

WHO: Momma's Boy
This four-piece, surf, garage-rock outfit are equally in your face and smooth enough to be spread with a spoon. Think of Mac Demarco and The Strokes, if the love-child of those two acts blessed us on a consistent basis from playing in Kansas City. They played their last show for the year last week, but they have released a few new demos very recently, so hopefully that means a record, and support shows after the first of the year.

WHO: Sons of Stereo
Sons of Stereo will float in one of your ears and not go out the other. They're new track, "The Breeze", will literally be stuck in your head for days after you listen to it. Clashing some classic rock elements with modern alternative feels, these guys will be a staple around town soon enough.

WHO: Radar State
If you recognize the guys in that photo, well then, you should. Radar State is a Kansas City punk-rock "supergroup", if you will, consisting of Matt Pryor and Jim Suptic (The Get Up Kids), Josh Berwanger (The Anniversary, Berwanger) and Adam Phillips (The Architects). Their full-length debut comes out in January, and they will be touring in support after that, including a show at recordBar.

WHO: Freight Train Rabbit Killer
Sure, even if you only stay a tiny bit involved with the local music scene, you've certainly seen this name. Well, we have never included them in our list, and these guys are a musical trip. They just released the last song for a 7" series, called "Wake Snake Dance Death", and apparently are headed to the studio to record a full-length. You can also see them perform their unique doom blues style of music at Westport Saloon before you go out, on New Years Eve.
